Fabio Pianesi received his degree in Psychology from the University of Rome (magna cum laude) in 1980 and the specialisation degree in Computer Science from the same university in 1986.
In 1988 Fabio Pianesi joined FBK-irst (at that time, ITC-irst), where he served first as deputy-head and then as head of the Cognitive and Communication Technologies division from 1998 till 2008. From 2008 until 2011, he led the joint FBK-UniTn Computational Cognition Laboratory and managed the FBK’s Ambient Assisted Living activities. From 2012 till 2013 he was Co-Location Manager of the Trento Node of EIT Digital and from 2013 until 2016 Research Director of EIT Digital and Vice-President of the Italian node. He is now Head of Collaboration for EIT Digital, coordinating the ARISE Europe program and overseeing EIT Digital involvement in H2020 projects.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of “ACM-ICMI (International Conference on Multimodal Interfaces)” and served as chair of the same board from 2008 until 2012. He is co-founder and, member of the Steering Board, of “AItAAL – the Italian Association for Ambient Assisted Living” – the Italian scientific and professional association that promotes the advancement of Ambient Assisted Living in Italy. Fabio Pianesi is Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing. He has participated in many international projects funded by the European Community (CHIL-FP6, Netcarity-FP6, Nespole!-FP5, Cospatial-FP7, PF-STAR-FP5).
Fabio teaches Cognitive Ergonomics at the University of Trento. His research interests are Multimodal Analysis and Interaction, Intelligent User Interfaces, Human Behavior Understanding, Computational Social Sciences.
